Facial reflexology aims to relax and help remove stress by assisting the body to heal and rebalance itself. During facial reflexology, gentle pressure is applied to the different reflex zones and reflexology points on the face. These points directly relate to areas of the body. Facial reflexology encourages a healthy blood and lymph flow and stimulates collagen and elastin, therefore also helping your skin to rejuvenate and minimise the appearance of ageing lines.

Facial reflexology works on the principle of following the reflex zones that run throughout our bodies. The treatment is combined with face massage that incorporates natural face-lifting techniques to invigorate every muscle, lift the face and smooth wrinkles.
Who can benefit?
Facial reflexology can support with the following

-
Firm facial muscles, reduce fine lines and wrinkles
-
Improve lymphatic drainage
-
Relieve sinusitis and congestion
-
Relive headache and migraines
-
Support teeth grinding

Facial reflexology is deeply relaxing with immediate effects due to the close proximity to the brain and central nervous system.

It is suitable for most people but if you have any concerns or would like to discuss the practice, please get in touch.
What to expect in a treatment
The treatment should be a relaxing time out for you and a chance to have the focus on yourself for a while. On arrival a short consultation will take place to understand your health history and what you are hoping for as part of the treatment.

Depending on your preference your will lie down on a massage table or sit in reclining chair with pillows and soft throws to help you feel as comfortable as you can. You will remain dressed but will take your shoes off.

The treatment begins with with a gentle cleansing of the face, and some gentle actions to encourage circulation and relaxation in the neck and face. Following this a facial oil is applied. Using hands and fingers, facial muscles and reflex points are stimulated and reinvigorated. All actions are gentle and precise with massage techniques interwoven. It is not the same as a facial but is relaxing and comfortable.

Towards the end of the treatment gentle techniques are used to ease you back into the day. You will then be given some time to 'come round' and have a glass of water if you wish. Following that, we can talk about some ideas that can help support once you leave the treatment room.

Products and techniques
It's not all about the face! The session will also include gentle action on the upper arm, neck and scalp, as well as the face, to support relaxation and circulation. At the end of the treatment, it can be beneficial to work for a short time on the lower legs and feet to help balance the energy in the body.

As part of the session, there are also some tools that can be used to support the treatment. For example a flat rose quartz disc can be placed on the forehead for a short while, and a crystal 'wand' to stimulate reflexes in the lower part of the face. Jade rollers and gua sha tools can also be used. The coolness of the crystals help to improve blood flow whilst working on the reflex points, and that cool sensation on the skin in contrast to the warm hands is often a favourite part of the treatment.
Aftercare
At the end of your treatment, we can if you wish talk about some ideas that can help support you once you have left the treatment room. This can include showing you some reflex points that can be worked on in between treatments.
Other lifestyle and/or nutrition advice will also be provided on an individual basis. Please also see the aftercare page.
Principles of Reflexology
Reflexology is a therapeutic practice based on the principle that specific points on the face, feet and hands correspond to different organs and systems within the body. By applying pressure to these reflex points, reflexologists believe that the body's natural healing processes can be stimulated and overall health and well-being can be promoted.
The underlying idea is that these reflex points form a map of the body, with each point connected through the nervous system to a corresponding body part. When pressure is applied, it is thought to release blockages and enhance energy flow, thereby aiding in the balance and function of the corresponding organs or systems. This practice is rooted in the ancient understanding of energy meridians and zones, which are pathways through which 'life force' or 'qi' flows.

In addition to promoting relaxation and stress reduction, reflexology is believed to improve circulation, detoxify the body, and enhance nerve function. The holistic approach makes reflexology a valuable tool in preventative health care and management of conditions, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the body's systems and the importance of maintaining balance and harmony.

While reflexology can provide many benefits, it is important to note that it should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment. Reflexology works in conjunction with conventional medical care, complementing and supporting the body’s natural healing processes.
