Nutritional therapy uses a healthy dietary approach to promote health and wellbeing, and provide support for areas of disease.

You may be looking for support with specific health concerns such as digestive health, diabetes or pre-diabetes, weight issues, skin concerns such as acne and eczema, women's health and hormones, stress and anxiety.  However, you may have other concerns such as low energy, tired of dieting or low emotions.  You don't need to suffer from a condition to benefit from Nutritional Therapy - it can enhance your health, lift your mood and boost your vitality.

Nutritional Therapy works with you on an individual basis to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to your symptoms and health concerns.   It takes account of the 'whole person' including health history, current lifestyle, dietary preferences and individual goals to establish a bespoke plan in a way that best fits your day-to-day life.

Naturopathic Approach

A naturopathic approach to nutritional therapy means assessing the causes of dis-ease, looking to address the root causes rather than just addressing symptoms, and to identifies ways to help prevent illness.  The overall wellbeing of the person is considered and supported.

Naturopathic nutrition is based on the following principles

  • Work with the healing power of nature, trusting the body's inherent powers of recovery when obstacles to cure are removed

  • Address the underlying cause of illness rather than just treating symptoms

  • Use the most natural, least toxic and least invasive therapies first

  • Support the whole person - assess not just the physical condition but also factors that influence health and well-being

  • Guide in the art of self-care and the steps needed to take to achieve optimal health

  • Encourage the promotion of health and prevention of disease

Recommendations are therefore made not only on food and diet, but on exercise, lifestyle and supplements if these can assist as a boost for the body.

How it works

Firstly...

You complete a health questionnaire which includes information about your goals, health history, diet and lifestyle.  It is also useful to see a diet diary for a week.  If that is too onerous, there are some additional questions to help me understand your current dietary life and prepare a sample meal plan that will work for you.

Secondly...

Our 75 minute initial consultation takes place in central Exeter or through Zoom.  We will review the form you have completed and the diet diary if you have one.  We'll look at your health and health history, understand your goals and look at ways for you to achieve that.   We will also discuss what will work best for follow up and accountability support to encourage adherence to the plan if that is of interest.

Thirdly....

Within 3 days of the consultation, I will send a personalised naturopathic nutrition plan.

At subsequent appointments, we will assess progress and refine the plan as necessary.  An updated Plan and week's meal plan will be provided.

What's included in a consultation package?

An initial consultation is 75 minutes.  The cost includes the following

  • Health questionnaire and food diary analysis

  • Pre-consultation research

  • Personalised nutrition and lifestyle plan

  • A sample week meal plan

  • Information handouts

  • Supplement recommendation

Follow up consultations are 30 minutes long.   Additionally, 'accountability' packages can be added which will require you to have an app such as Nutracheck or My Fitness Pal.

At one subsequent face to face appointment, you are also welcome to add a 'taster' session of facial reflexology and massage.

Supplements

Food based changes are always best where possible, and I always take a 'food first' approach before looking to supplementation.  However, supplements can sometimes be beneficial at the start of a new dietary plan when changes are being made gradually.  Depending on individual health goals and lifestyle, supplements may be useful over a longer period too.  A whole-food approach as part of a health diet is always best ultimately however.  And so where I advise on supplements, I will suggest quality formulated food-based supplements and herbs over synthetic supplements.

FAQs

What should I bring to my consultation

Please bring any relevant medical records, a list of current medications and supplements (including brand names).

Do you work with other medical professionals?

Nutritional therapists never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with 'red flag' signs or symptoms to their medical professional.

If necessary, we can refer you to other specialists for further evaluation or treatment.

Do you offer online consultations?

Yes, this normally takes place via Zoom.  Online consultations are just as effective and provide the same personalised attention and care.

How long will it take to see results?

The time it takes to see results varies depending on individual health conditions and how closely the recommended dietary and lifestyle changes are followed.  Some clients notice improvements within a few weeks, while others may take several months.  Consistency and commitment are key.

Are the recommended supplements included in the consultation fee?
The consultancy fee covers the time spent assessing your needs and developing a personalised plan.    Recommended supplements are additional costs.  We will discuss these options and any associated costs during the consultation.
